With over 80 voices in over 40 different languages, let your phone speak with Vocalizer

Vocalizer TTS Voice is an incredibly easy to use and customizable text-to-speech system which can be used in conjunction with other apps to bring natural sounding speech and expressions to texts on your device.

With over 80 voices in over 40 different languages, the app certainly presents a lot more choice than other TTS apps on the market (Google Text-to-Speech, for example, currently only offers 16 voices in 13 languages). The app is free to download, and you can install as many voices as you need and switch between them depending on which you need.

The app is not without it's small glitches, and the voices don't come particularly cheaply. However, it works effectively with other apps and the setup process is very easy.

Vocalizer TTS Voice has one of the broadest selections of languages available on the market in terms of TTS. This immediately puts it ahead of the pack. Getting going is very easy. Simply launch the app and you are presented with the main interface, listing all the voices available, each with a sample track so you can try before you buy.

Once you've made your purchase, go to use any GPS navigation, E-Book reading or assistive software on your device which supports TTS, and when selecting the option to 'read aloud', and providing Vocalizer is set as your default, this bad boy kicks in without a hitch. It worked a dream when tested on Play Books.

One of the biggest pluses with the app is the customization options available in the settings menu: you can control pitch, speech rate, volume, punctuation, and you can also manually or automatically add words to the user dictionary. A particularly handy settings option is the 'Use alternative TTS', which means your phone will automatically revert to another TTS system should Vocalizer not be available for a particular voice.

There's also an option for downloading voices only over Wi-Fi and you can choose the voice quality upon download, protecting your precious data plan.

We find individual voices to be priced a little high at 3.99 EUR (or currency equivalent) a pop. Although the app itself is free to download, if you want more than one voice it can some become an expensive affair.

We also found the reading voice to be a little quiet, and when the volume is up to the maximum, the sound quality suffers.
